Sheriff receives advocacy award for commitment to abused children

| April 4, 2023

NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (April 4, 2023) – Local child abuse prevention advocates are again recognizing one of their own during this national month of awareness.

Each April, the Noah’s Hope Child Advocacy Center presents its Voice of All Children Award to someone in our community whose commitment to ending child abuse goes above and beyond. The latest recipient is Tuscarawas County Sheriff and Noah’s Hope board member Orvis Campbell, as announced during Monday’s county commissioners meeting by Executive Director Mandy Willet.

“Sheriff Campbell has demonstrated decades of unwavering support for marginalized and victimized children. He has relentlessly worked to make children and families safe in the community through law enforcement efforts.”

Captain Adam Fisher accepted the award on behalf of his boss, who wanted to be there himself but was out of town visiting with family. He told Fisher he was grateful but felt unworthy of the honor.

“It was the one thing he communicated to me multiple times but I can’t disagree with him more. I think he is deserving of the award. He goes above and beyond.. The children of this community and this county, they are really a top priority of his.”

Campbell is also involved with the United Way of Tuscarawas County and the TUFF Bags program that sends meals and snacks home with students who might otherwise go hungry on weekends and school breaks. He recently started producing a series of virtual storytimes through the sheriff’s office to promote literacy and familiarize kids with the folks who protect and serve them.
