High-speed car chase ends with one crashing and snapping power pole

NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (May 26, 2023) – Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s officials say one of two drivers accused of stealing a pair of vehicles and leading police on a high-speed pursuit has been arrested.

Lamine Mohamed Conde, Age 28, of Columbus

 

The vehicles, a 2020 Dodge Charger and a 2016 Chevy Camaro, were reported stolen from Insurance Auto Auctions on state Route 259 at the east end of New Philadelphia around 8:15 a.m. Thursday.

The Charger was determined to have been going 163 mph when it crashed and severed a utility pole on U.S. 36. in Clay Township.

The driver, 28-year-old Lamine Conde of Columbus, was treated at a Canton hospital and taken to the Tuscarawas County Jail on expected charges including felony auto theft, fleeing and eluding, and others.

The Camaro was recovered undamaged and unoccupied near the Wal-Mart in Coshocton County. No word on the search for that driver.

The investigation continues.
