Communities gather to commemorate Memorial Day
DOVER (WJER) (May 30, 2023) – Area residents took a break from cookouts and pool time to acknowledge the true meaning of Memorial Day over the extended weekend.
Dover’s service included featured speaker Ohio District 10 American Legion Post Commander Doug Russell.
“Let us take this time to remember and honor the men and women who have given their lives for this great country,” said Russell. “Let us reflect on their courage, their sacrifice, and their dedication to a cause greater than themselves.”
Russell also quoted part of Abraham Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address during his speech Monday.
“It is for us the living, rather, to be dedicated here to the unfinished work which they who fought here have thus far so nobly advanced,” Russell read.
