New Phila extends superintendent’s contract
Amy Wentworth will remain superintendent of the New Philadelphia City School District through the end of the 2026-27 school year after having her contract extended during Monday's board of education meeting.
NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (July 11, 2023) – Amy Wentworth will get to lead the New Philadelphia school system for at least three more years.
Board of education members on Monday voted unanimously to extend Wentworth’s employment as superintendent through the end of the 2026-27 school year. Board President Todd McMath called the vote and praised Wentworth, saying she has done a tremendous job of overseeing daily operations, identifying areas for growth, and leading the district through difficult decisions.
“I’ve seen a great willingness to grow, a willingness with us and with the people that you lead to say, ‘Hey, I may be wrong on this. Tell me if you think I’m wrong on this,’ and I think that’s rare to have and I appreciate that very much, so I definitely approve of this extension.”
Vice-President Chris Weaver echoed McMath’s sentiments.
“To me, we’re making really good progress, and it would be wise for the district and for our community for us to have continued leadership on that front. It’s been started, and I think we’re on a good track and look forward to where we’re headed.”
Wentworth spent six years as New Philadelphia’s assistant superintendent and got promoted in August of 2021 after David Brand left to lead the school district in North Olmstead. Her original contract was set to expire after next school year.
