Issue 1, supported in Tuscarawas County, fails in Ohio election
NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (Aug. 9, 2023) – Ohio voters said no to the ballot measure in Tuesday’s election that would have made it more difficult to amend the state constitution, though most Tuscarawas County voters were in favor of it.
Fifty-seven percent of voters in Ohio rejected State Issue 1, according to unofficial results.
But in Tuscarawas County, about 56 percent of voters said yes.
Sixty-two percent of early voters in Tuscarawas County actually opposed Issue 1. But far more came out on election day in support of it locally.
Tuscarawas County Board of Elections Director Gail Garbrandt says voter turnout for the county was 36.45 percent, which she considers great for an August special election.
She says the county board elections board will certify the results Monday.
