New Philadelphia Patrol Post hosting anniversary open house

| September 19, 2023

NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (Sept. 19, 2023) – The community is getting another chance to check out the local Highway Patrol Post and meet the staff.

There’s an open house on Wednesday from 11 am until 2 pm at the post on East High Avenue to celebrate the patrol’s 90th anniversary. Sgt. Brian Hawkins was looking forward to welcoming everyone into the facility, which hosted another open house about a year ago.

“It went very well. We had a quite a few people show up. Some of your old retirees would show up, which is always awesome because they like to see how it’s progressed over the years as far as equipment and technology. So it was very good the first time, and we expect this one to be just as good.”

Hawkins says troopers and dispatchers will be there alongside representatives from some of the post’s specialized units talking about what they do and answering questions.

“Possibly aviation – a helicopter will be here, commercial vehicle inspectors, crash reconstructionists, the criminal patrol section, and we’ll also have recruitment sections too so if anybody’s interested in joining the patrol, we can give them that information as well.”

The agency will also be promoting early literacy through the Dolly Parton Imagination Library. Hawkins says they’ll have pamphlets to hand out and can help interested families sign up for the program that provides participating children with a free book each month until their 5th birthday.
