Tickets now to be issued for violating Ohio’s ‘phones down’ driving law
NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (Oct. 5, 2023) – The six-month educational period ends today on the new distracted driving law in Ohio that bans most forms of cell phone usage behind the wheel.
State Highway Patrol New Philadelphia Post Sgt. Brian Hawkins says violators will now get tickets.
A first offense could involve a $150 fine and two points on your driver’s license. That penalty for a first-time offense can be waived though if you take an online distracted driving course.
Hawkins says local troopers pulled over eight drivers for warnings since April.
He says drivers are still permitted to talk on cell phones held up to their ears.
