Legacy of teacher killed in crash to live on through scholarship
NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (Nov. 28, 2023) – The Buckeye Career Center Foundation is accepting donations in memory of a beloved teacher to help graduating seniors continue their education.
Longtime English and Language Arts instructor Shannon Wigfield lost her life in the Tusky Valley charter bus crash a couple of weeks ago. But foundation President Kimberly Hobart Fleming says her memory will live on through the memorial scholarship fund that the board has set up in her honor.
“Mrs. Wigfield was a 24-year staff member at Buckeye. Teaching English, she touched so many lives. She’s really remembered for her smile and her personality and her laughter. She really had a special connection with her students, and so we think this is a fitting tribute for her memory to be carried forward.”
Contributions can be mailed to P.O. Box 355 in New Philadelphia.

The foundation hopes to present a Shannon Wigfield Memorial Scholarship to at least one graduating senior come May and make it a yearly opportunity.
