Claymont, Tusky Valley receiving millions from state for health centers
UHRICHSVILLE (WJER) (April 3, 2024) – The Claymont and Tusky Valley school districts and the East Central Ohio Educational Service Center are receiving millions of dollars in state funding to open health centers on their campuses.
The Tusky Valley Local School District recently announced a $2.28 million award to turn a 2,600 square feet of the old high school into a health center, in partnership with the Aultman Health Foundation. It will include exam rooms, counseling offices, and a lab.
Claymont is getting almost $1.9 million to build a 2,000-square-foot health center with Aultman on the grounds of Claymont High School.
Superintendent Brian Rentsch says the health centers will be open to the public but will primarily serve students and staff.
ECO Educational Service Center treasurer and CFO Matt King says that agency will receive $3 million to convert the upper levels of its Saint Clairsville building into medical offices in partnership with Ohio Hills Health Center. King says they’re hoping to bring in dental offices, primary care physicians, an orthopedic surgeon, a physical therapist, and maybe more.
The money is part of Governor Mike DeWine’s $64 million investment to make children’s health services more accessible across Appalachia.
