Reeves Foundation ready to assist more nonprofits after near record year of giving

DOVER (WJER) (Jan. 10th, 2022) – The Reeves Foundation is encouraging nonprofit organizations to reach out to them for financial assistance on projects to better the community.
Businessman Sam Reeves and his wife Margaret established the foundation 55 years ago. Their grandson, Trustee and Treasurer Peter Wagner says the foundation awarded a near-record of more than $1.2 million in grants to 45 recipients in 2021.
“The amount of money that we’re able to grant each year fluctuates with the size of our endowment, and of course, the quality of the grant requests that we receive.”
He says those ranged from $200,000 for lighting improvements at Crater Stadium to $2,500 for hygiene and household cleaning items at the Twin City Christian Service Center.
“It isn’t really the size of the grant that’s important to us. Small grants can have as large an impact as a large grant. The level of satisfaction that we get sometimes with a smaller grant is every bit as great as with a large grant.”
Wagner says the trustees meet bi-monthly to review and prioritize requests for grants, which are distributed immediately upon approval.
Other Reeves Foundation grants in 2021 included $60,000 to the Tusky Valley Trojan Booster Club for weight room updates and equipment, and nearly $92,000 for the Tuscarawas County YMCA to replace the roof over the wellness center.
