U.S. Senate challenger makes campaign stop in New Phila

| August 6, 2024

NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (August 6, 2024) – The Youngstown-area businessman trying to unseat Ohio’s longtime Democratic Senator spent time at the city’s newest eatery Tuesday trying to win over local voters.

Bernie Moreno highlighted his working-class upbringing during a campaign stop at The Delaware.

“From the age of 12 till now, I’ve always had a job, always worked. My opponent, he grew up very differently. He grew up going to country clubs – a wealthy family in Mansfield, Ohio – went to Yale University – full paid tuition – so obviously he could afford that. In fact, his tuition for four years at Yale University was more than my dad made as a surgical assistant.”

He also shared his thoughts on Democratic Presidential candidate Kamala Harris and her running mate.

“Honestly they make a great team because Tim Walz was allowing Minneapolis to burn, not sending in the National Guard, allowing a police station to literally burn to the ground. What was his buddy Kamala Harris doing? Starting a fund to let those rioters out of jail. What an amazing team they make. Aren’t they great?”

Moreno is the son of Colombian immigrants whose priorities if elected include securing America’s borders.

“We’re gonna invite people to come to America. Invite you on our terms like the way I came here, and if you’re not invited to this country you’re not gonna be allowed to come into this country.”

Moreno also wants to decentralize the federal government and dismantle its education department. He has been traveling around Ohio campaigning with newly elected 6th District Congressman Michael Rulli, who’s running for a full term in office against Democrat Michael Kripchak.
