Splash pad purchased for Cy Young Park

| September 5, 2024

NEWCOMERSTOWN (WJER) (Sept. 5, 2024) – Village officials are moving forward with a park improvement project they once thought was out of reach.

Mayor Pat Cadle says the plan to add a splash pad to the pool area at Cy Young Park is back on after finding a company willing to build one for much less than they were quoted by others a few years ago.

“They saw what our needs were and our price range, and they came up with one for $75,000 –  and we know it’s going to be a little bit more than that because of the things we want to add on – but then it became manageable again.”

Council approved the proposal on Tuesday evening. Cadle expects the splash pad to be installed in late April or early May and ready for kids to use when the pool reopens next summer.

“The water comes out of the base. There will be a palm tree that sprinkles water. There will be four bigger things and then there are 12 other just sprinklers that come off the ground the kids can play in and cool off in.”

Grants from the Reeves Foundation and Dover-Phila Federal Credit Union are covering all but about $5,000 of the cost. Cadle says estimates initially ranged from $150,000 to $175,000 but nearly doubled during the supply chain shortages that accompanied the COVID-19 pandemic.
