United Way fundraiser for 12 local charities closing in on $605k goal
NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (Jan. 24, 2022) – The United Way of Tuscarawas County is continuing to gather donations for a dozen local charities here in the new year.
The organization’s 79th community fundraising campaign is about 85-percent of the way to its $605,000 goal with a couple of weeks still to go. President Robin Waltz says its beneficiaries include Mobile Meals, the Tuscarawas Clinic for the Working Uninsured, the YMCA, and Big Brothers Big Sisters of East Central Ohio.
“The Noah’s Hope Child Advocacy Center; the Retired Senior Volunteer Program we fund; T4C, the Tuscarawas County Council for Church and Community. We also fund their prevention program in the schools as well as Ohio Guidestone.”
Donations can be made online at tusc-united-way.org, mailed to United Way’s headquarters at 1458 5th Street Northwest in New Philadelphia, or dropped off there during regular business hours. Campaign Chairman Brad Bielski doesn’t think coming up with the remaining 90-thousand dollars or so before the fundraiser ends in mid-February is going to be a problem.
“We are very proud of the community and the way it has stepped over the years, and we’re confident that will happen again because the work that we do here at the United Way is just awesome in helping people really achieve a lot of their goals and dreams.”
The campaign typically wraps up with a banquet for volunteers and donors, but Waltz says that hasn’t been possible the past few years because of the COVID threat. She says the United Way will instead be putting out a video announcing the grand total and recognizing those who contributed.
