Bond continued for New Phila assault suspect

| October 10, 2024

NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (Oct. 10, 2024) – We’ve been learning more about one of the suspects in the beating of a New Philadelphia man at his home.

According to court records, it happened while Christopher D. Beatty was on pre-trial supervision for a felonious assault and domestic violence case out of Harrison County. During his arraignment in Tuscarawas County Common Pleas Court, he asked Judge Elizabeth Thomakos for a bond modification so he could be transferred to the jail in Cadiz and resolve the charges against him there but she refused.

“There’s nothing about being at our jail that should prevent you from getting transported to Harrison County for any hearings that judge may order. I am going to keep the bond in place at $250,000 cash or surety.”

The 35-year-old had his bond in the Harrison County case revoked twice before the August 20th attack on Fair Avenue that left the victim with multiple abrasions, facial fractures, and a partially detached ear.

Beatty was bailed out of jail both times by one of the other suspects in that incident, 38-year-old Todd Riordan of Massillon.

Another man – 36-year-old Jared Soltero of Minerva is facing identical charges for his alleged role. A fourth had his case bound over to the grand jury but hasn’t been indicted.
