County engineer maps out 2025 projects to start first full term

Tuscarawas County Engineer’s Office Manager Martha Campbell swears in Engineer Doug Bachman

NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (Jan 13, 2024) – Tuscarawas County Engineer Doug Bachman is beginning his first full term in office.

Bachman served as the Harrison County engineer before being appointed to the position previously held by his father in October of 2023. He ran unopposed for re-election and was sworn back in ahead of the new year.

“It’s good to have the next four years to plan and hopefully continue to make the roads safe and just have this first full term back home where I grew up,” Bachman said.

As engineer, Bachman is responsible for maintaining 275 bridges and more than 3,200 miles of roadway.

He’s looking ahead to a couple of major projects coming up, including one that will widen Dover-Zoar Road between the city limits and Schneiders Crossing Road.

“It’s a project aimed at safety in hoping to prevent accidents and roadway departures,” he said.

Bachman will also be working on specs for a bridge replacement in Tusky that’s scheduled to go out to bid in 2026.
