Fallen tree near Ray Avenue and North Broadway in New Philadelphia

NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (April 30, 2025) – Crews have been left with a lot of cleanup work following the storm system that barreled through the county starting shortly before 4 p.m. Tuesday.

Photos have been going around of trees that toppled in the area, including a large one at a home near the intersection of Ray Avenue and North Broadway in New Philadelphia and another on East Fourth Street in Dover.

Tuscarawas County Emergency Management Agency Director Jennifer James says there were no reports of injuries or anyone being displaced, but the damage was still being assessed.

The Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s office took more than 50 reports of fallen utility lines throughout the area Tuesday afternoon and into the evening.

American Electric Power this morning has been showing clusters of service outages around the county, including more than 500 customers out in the New Philadelphia area, nearly 800 in Uhrichsville, and 1,900 around Tusky.  Estimated restoration times are between 4 and 6 p.m. today for most of them.

As a result, Indian Valley and Claymont school districts are closed today.
