Aldi gains city support in hopes of locating in north Dover

DOVER (WJER) (June, 19, 2025) – Aldi is two steps closer to coming to town.
Mayor Shane Gunnoe says city committees on Tuesday approved two requests by the supermarket chain as it aims to build a store on the north side of Dover on Ohio Avenue.
First the planning commission approved a lot split for 1.7 acres owned by Zimmer Biomet. Gunnoe says Aldi has a purchase agreement with Zimmer to buy that land.
Also Tuesday, the city’s board of zoning appeals approved a zoning variance to allow the company to build a supermarket there.
He says Aldi also is one of several interested potential buyers for two acres adjacent to Zimmer at the corner of Ohio and Wooster avenues that the Ohio National Guard is planning to sell soon.
