Troopers pleased with driver behavior over July 4th weekend
NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (July 9, 2025) – Ohio State Highway Patrol officials are commending drivers for how they handled the extended Fourth of July weekend on the local roads.
New Philadelphia Post Commander Lt. Johnnie Maier says his troopers responded to 13 crashes in Tuscarawas and Carroll counties Thursday through Sunday, with no serious injuries.
Maier says his troopers during holidays respond to wherever needed, but particularly focus on areas that experience more crashes and high-speed drivers, such as SR 39, US 36 and 250, and I-77.
Maier says his troopers also made over 400 contacts with drivers over the four days. They made six impaired-driving arrests and issued 10 tickets for seat belt violations and three tickets for distracted driving.
Statewide, troopers responded to 482 crashes in Ohio during the four-day period. Those included 10 fatal crashes with 10 deaths.
