Crash causes major gas leak, evacuation in Sugarcreek

SUGARCREEK (WJER) (Aug. 6, 2025) – Residents are being permitted to return to their homes following a “major gas leak” resulting from a car crash that led to an evacuation lasting nearly four hours Wednesday evening.
Sugarcreek firefighters had everyone evacuate within three blocks of the scene near the intersection of SR 39 and SR 93. The crash shut down SR 39 and was reported just before 5 p.m.
Enbridge gas company officials arrived by 7 p.m. and had the gas shut off within an hour.
The Ohio Department of Transportation assisted by rerouting traffic around the closed area near the intersection.
Sugarcreek firefighters kept the community aware of what was going on throughout the evening as this was happening.
