New Philadelphia schools find metal in playground mulch
NEW PHILADELPHIA – The New Philadelphia School District has a mulch problem this week that’s keeping kids off the playgrounds.
Superintendent Amy Wentworth says they found nails and pieces of metal in the mulch used at district playgrounds, the Quaker Dome and landscaping beds.
Nobody has been hurt by the mulch. She says one student had a nail go through their shoe.
Wentworth says the mulch comes from a local provider the district has used in the past, but she didn’t name the company. She says the district is working quickly to resolve the issue and will let the community know when the playgrounds are safe to reopen.
