Dover Schaeffler plant is Ohio Project of the Year

DOVER – The $230 million Schaeffler Plant under construction in north Dover has been named Ohio’s Economic Development Project of the Year, beating out 60 nominations from across the state.
Tuscarawas County Economic Development Corporation Executive Director Marla Akridge says it is very prestigious honor to be recognized by their peers in the Ohio Economic Development Association.
Schaeffler is expected to finish its 300,000 -square-foot manufacturing facility early next year. It is on almost 100 acres on Dover’s north border with the village of Parral. Officials say it will eventually add about 450 new jobs and manufacture components for electric and hybrid vehicles.
However, the Project of the Year award is not about the project’s size. Akridge says it recognizes innovation and collaboration in economic development.
She says the Schaeffler project required cooperation from the city, village, company, local School Boards and state officials. The Ohio Tax Credit Authority provided Schaeffler with a 15-year Job Creation Tax Credit. The city of Dover has received more than $2 million in state grants for associated infrastructure work.
