Dover hopes to install splash pad before pool season

| January 7, 2026

DOVER – City officials say they have enough money and time to build a splash pad at the city pool before swimming season.

City Council this week accepted a roughly $30,000 grant from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources to help build the zero-depth water-play area. Mayor Shane Gunnoe says the ODNR only awards one of these Natureworks Local Assistance grants per county, and Dover got it. Gunnoe wants engineering work to start soon so the pad can be done before the pool opens in May.

Gunnoe says the city has raised about $160,000 through state funding and private donations for the splash pad. He says it is just one of several park improvements in the works this year thanks to $750,000 in grants and donations.

Dover is also working to complete four pickleball courts and a shelter at the city park on Wooster Avenue before summer starts.
