COLUMBUS – Ohio Governor Mike DeWine is encouraging high school students to take part in the new Presidential 1776 Award Challenge. It’s a national civics competition launched as part of America’s upcoming 250th anniversary celebration.

Participants in grades 9–12 will advance through an online exam, regional semifinals, and a national finals event in Washington, D.C. The program focuses on the Founding Fathers, the Declaration of Independence, the Constitutional Convention, and key Revolutionary War events.

Finalists will receive covered travel to Washington, and scholarship awards total $250,000, including a $150,000 grand prize.

Registration opened February 1 and must be completed by February 22. The online testing window is February 22nd through 28th.

Students can sign up here.

Organizers say the challenge also helps students strengthen critical thinking and communication skills inspired by the country’s earliest leaders.
