Acting Prosecutor Scott Deedrick

NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (Feb. 26, 2026) – Tuscarawas County assistant prosecutor Scott Deedrick will step into the county’s top prosecutor role on a temporary basis beginning in early March when Prosecutor Ryan Styer is sworn in as Common Pleas Court judge.

County commissioners approved Deedrick’s interim appointment to bridge the gap during the transition. He said the move has been in motion since Styer first explored applying for the judgeship.

Deedrick, who has spent 29 years in the prosecutor’s office, is also seeking the permanent appointment. The Tuscarawas County Republican Central Committee is expected to make that selection by mid‑March. He said his long tenure speaks for itself and that he does not view the interim role as an audition.

He takes over during what he called an especially demanding period, with several major cases underway and a smaller-than-usual staff.

If chosen to finish the term, Deedrick would face voters twice—first in this fall’s election and again in two years when the unexpired term concludes.
