State Route 39 paving project begins east of Sugarcreek
NEW PHILADELPHIA, Ohio (WJER) (April 6, 2026) — More orange barrels are popping up across the county as the Ohio Department of Transportation begins a new round of road construction projects this spring.
Starting today, ODOT crews are resurfacing nearly four miles of State Route 39 east of Sugarcreek. The project will roll out in phases, beginning with temporary traffic signals expected to be in place for the next six to eight weeks.
Once that phase wraps up, work will shift to overnight hours, with flaggers maintaining traffic through the end of October.
ODOT spokesperson Lauren Borell is reminding drivers to slow down and stay alert when traveling through work zones.
Several additional projects are also scheduled across Tuscarawas County this year, including:
- The West Third Street bridge replacement in Uhrichsville
- Safe Routes to School upgrades, adding new sidewalks and crosswalks in Port Washington
- Paving, drainage, and sidewalk improvements along North First Street in Dennison
Drivers are encouraged to plan ahead and watch for changing traffic patterns as construction continues throughout the year.
