Volunteer Connect Fair – New Philadelphia

Want to make a difference in the community but don’t know how?  Look no further than the annual Volunteer Connect Fair May 13 from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in New Philadelphia. (201 W. High Ave) The fair is being held by the local Volunteer Leaders in Action committee and is free to the public.

“Our non-profit organizations do fantastic work but face a shortage of volunteers. At the same time, many people have a desire to volunteer but just don’t know where the need is.  The volunteer fair brings the two together,” said Kim Harmon of Mobile Meals

According to Harmon, the Volunteer Fair is a way for community non-profits to showcase their work and their need for volunteers.  It is also a way for those who desire to serve and volunteer to explore opportunities and talk with representatives in a casual atmosphere.

“Over 50 organizations have been invited to participate in this event, representing the diversity of volunteer opportunities in the area, including social services, historic landmarks, nature and ecology and the arts,” said Nate Hackenbracht of Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP)

“United Way is thrilled to be the sponsor of this event once again”, said Sarah Spies, president for the United Way of Tuscarawas County.  “Prospective volunteers of all ages will be able to find out how their talents and time can be put to work to make Tuscarawas County a stronger, more supportive community”.

Other fair participants include Mobile Meals, Altrusa, YMCA, Tusc. Co. Visitors Bureau, Alzheimers’ Association, Southern Care Hospice, Compass Rape Crisis Center, Fort Laurens, The Little Theatre of Tuscarawas County, Wilderness Center, Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP), United Way, Salvation Army, CCUH volunteer services, Birthright, American Red Cross, Food Pantry, and Zoar Village.  Space is still available for Tuscarawas County non-profit organizations – contact Kim Harmon at (330) 364-0870 for registration details.
