Memorial Day Service Planned in New Philadelphia to Honor Fallen Service Members

| May 22, 2026

NEW PHILADELPHIA — Community members are invited to gather Monday for a Memorial Day ceremony honoring U.S. military personnel who made the ultimate sacrifice.

The annual service will begin at 11 a.m. on the courthouse square in downtown New Philadelphia and is hosted by the New Philadelphia Veterans Council Coordinating Committee.

This year’s program will feature a keynote address from Steve Chenevey, a Vietnam War veteran and post commander of VFW Post 1445.

His brother, Jerry Chenevey, who serves as the post’s chaplain, says students from New Philadelphia High School are also scheduled to participate. The high school marching band, student vocalists, and a flag-folding demonstration are all planned as part of the program.

The ceremony will conclude with a traditional military tribute, including a volley salute followed by the playing of taps.
