County Health Department Responds to Spike in Mosquito Activity

| June 12, 2026

DOVER (WJER) (June 12, 2026) – The Tuscarawas County Health Department is stepping up mosquito control efforts as activity increases across the area.

Crews will spray in Goshen Township and the village of Roswell tonight from 8 to 11 p.m. after spraying in Fairfield Township last night.  That’s because recent mosquito surveillance found trap counts above the threshold for action along Tall Timber and Canal roads.

Environmental Health Operations Administrator Mike Kopko says teams treat standing water with EPA-approved larvicide.

He says residents can act by emptying standing water from containers, gutters, and birdbaths, using insect repellent with DEET, wearing protective clothing, and limiting outdoor activity at dawn and dusk.
