Mosquito Spraying Planned Tonight After West Nile Detection in New Philadelphia

| June 30, 2026

NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (June 30, 2026) – The New Philadelphia City Health Department will be spraying for mosquitoes tonight after a positive West Nile virus test.

Officials say the mosquito sample was collected near Commercial Avenue Southeast and Goshen Hill Road.

Spraying will take place south of Commercial Avenue, down to New Philadelphia’s Southside Community Park, and within a one-mile radius of Goshen Hill Cemetery.

Crews are set to get started around 8:45 tonight. If you have respiratory issues, you’re encouraged to take precautions while the spraying is going on.

West Nile virus is spread through the bite of an infected mosquito, but most people who get it never develop symptoms.

Health officials are also reminding everyone to dump out standing water around their homes and use insect repellent when spending time outside.
