CARROLLTON – A semipro football team from Tuscarawas County is apologizing after a large fight that reportedly took place at a game Saturday while Carrollton High School officials are distancing themselves from whatever happened.

Official details are limited, but there are plenty of unverified accounts on social media. Carrollton Police did not immediately return messages.

The Tuscarawas County Warriors were playing the Canton Hurricanes at Warrior Stadium in Carrollton on Saturday.

Scanner traffic indication police received a report of a large fight at the stadium involving 50 people. There were also reports of smoke in the area and people threatening to pull out weapons.

Carrollton school officials in a statement said they rent out their football stadium to the Tuscarawas County Warriors football team. They say Saturday’s incident is not connected to the high school, and the semipro football team operates independently of the school district.

A statement on the Tuscarawas County Warriors Facebook page apologizes and says an investigation is taking place.

Statement from Carrollton High School Athletics
Carrollton High School is aware of the incident that occurred on Saturday, July 11, during a football game held at our stadium.
For the past two summers, the Tuscarawas County Warriors semi-professional football organization has rented our athletic facility to host its home games. The incident involved individuals associated with the participating semi-professional football teams and some of their spectators. No Carrollton Exempted Village School District students, student-athletes, coaches, staff members, or community members were involved.
We understand there has been significant speculation and misinformation circulating regarding this event. We want to make it clear that this incident was not connected to Carrollton High School, our athletic programs, or our community.
As soon as the situation developed, local law enforcement was contacted and responded immediately. We extend our sincere appreciation to the Carrollton Police Department and the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office for their swift, professional response in bringing the situation under control and helping ensure the safety of those in attendance.
While Carrollton High School rents its facilities to outside organizations, those organizations operate independently of the school district. Carrollton High School remains committed to providing a safe environment for all events held on our campus and appreciates the continued support of our community.
We encourage the public to rely on verified information rather than rumors and thank our community for its understanding.
