New Philadelphia to Spray for Mosquitoes
NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (Aug. 4, 2026) – City Health Department officials are continuing the fight against mosquitoes this week.
Health Commissioner Nicole Bache says the city uses its mosquito trap surveillance program to determine where spraying is needed. In addition to that monitoring, crews have also responded to several recent complaints from residents.
Bache says the department’s public outreach efforts also appear to be making a difference. She says more residents are using free adulticide and larvicide water treatment tablets to eliminate mosquito breeding areas around their homes. The tablets are available at the health department inside New Philadelphia City Hall.
The health department plans to spray TONIGHT (8/4) in two areas of the city. One includes the west side near West Elementary, between Tuscarawas Avenue and 12th Street, from West High Avenue to College Avenue. The second covers the south side, from Commercial Avenue Southwest and Southeast to Southside Community Park.
She says the treatment is routine, and the city has not had any mosquito-borne illness issues so far this summer.
Anyone with respiratory concerns should take proper precautions.
The spraying could be delayed, moved to the following evening, or cancelled if there is rain, high wind, or cold temperatures.
