Tuscarawas County up to 8 measles cases
DOVER – The Tuscarawas County Health Department confirmed five more cases of measles on Wednesday to bring the county’s total to eight as of 3:30 p.m.
Cases range in age from 1 to 20 years, and 100 percent of confirmed cases are unvaccinated.
Health officials encourage anyone who is not vaccinated against measles to talk with their healthcare provider about getting the MMR vaccine as two doses are about 97-percent effective at preventing the disease.
“The MMR vaccine is the best protection against measles,” the health department said in a press release. “We encourage residents to check their vaccination status and talk with their healthcare provider about MMR vaccination, particularly if they or their children are not up to date.”

Measles is highly contagious.
Anyone with symptoms including fever, cough, runny nose, red or watery eyes, followed by a rash, should call their healthcare provider before going to a medical facility to help prevent exposing others.
