Three new measles cases reported in Tuscarawas County
DOVER – The number of confirmed measles cases in Tuscarawas County this summer has grown to 11. That is an increase of three since last week.
The Tuscarawas County Health Department reports that the cases range in age from 1 to 31 years old, and all the cases involve individuals who are unvaccinated.
Officials had linked previous cases to exposures at Smokey Lane Stables in Sugarcreek on July 17th or the Bloomfield Livestock Auction in Bloomfield on July 18th. They did not immediately provide additional details on the new cases.
The health department says The MMR vaccine is the best protection against measles with a 97 percent effectiveness rate. They encourage residents to check their vaccination status and talk with their healthcare provider about MMR vaccination, particularly if they or their children are not up to date.
