County Agencies Highlight Progress, Push Ahead During Recovery Month
NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (Sept. 9, 2026) – Tuscarawas County agencies say declining overdose numbers are encouraging, but they’re using Recovery Month to stress that the work isn’t done.
Empower Tusc and partner groups have unveiled this year’s Project Hope silhouettes, which will be displayed across the community to show the county recorded 117 overdoses and seven overdose deaths in 2025 — down from 23 deaths in 2023 and 11 in 2024.
Empower Tusc Coordinator Terri Miller credits the local health departments and their Project Dawn effort for expanding access to free naloxone.
Miller also praises the county’s free hope line, 330‑663‑6812, and navigator Katie Maurer for helping connect people with treatment options.
The Tuscarawas County commissioners have recognized Recovery Month with a proclamation, and the ADAMHS Board continues sharing information about available resources.
