Fair Auctions Finish Strong Despite Slight Dip in Total Sales
DOVER (WJER) (Sept. 28, 2026) – Fair week in Tuscarawas County closed with another strong show of support for 4-H youth and their projects.
This year’s Dairy Sale topped $116,000, up from $106,000 last year. The Small Animal Sale also climbed, reaching nearly $163,000 compared with about $156,000 in 2025.
Grand champions included Ronan Chismar’s duck at $1,400, Colson Miller’s rabbit at $800, Teagann Lieser’s broiler-chicken at $1,050, Kate Liggett’s goat at $2,900, and Emily Zurfley’s turkey at $1,300 — all backed by local buyers who continue to show up for these kids.
Combined 2026 auction totals — including Thursday’s livestock sale — finished at more than $1.6 million, slightly below last year’s $1.8 million.
Sale Committee Chair Tina Jones thanked buyers, supporters, volunteers and committee members for helping make the auctions a success. The sales remain a key part of fair week, giving 4-H exhibitors a chance to see the community recognize the time, work and care they invest in their projects.
