ODOT Crews Complete Winter Readiness Checks in Tuscarawas County
NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (Oct. 28, 2026) — The Ohio Department of Transportation says its snow‑and‑ice fleet is ready for winter after crews wrapped up their annual inspections this week.
District 11 spokeswoman Lauren Borell says mechanics completed 150‑point checks on all 20 trucks that cover Tuscarawas County’s 17 snow and ice routes — reviewing engines, blinkers, windshield wipers and other key components. Loaders used to move road salt also underwent full inspections to ensure they’re ready when the first snow arrives.
Borell says drivers should prepare, too, by checking tire tread, topping off washer fluid and keeping blankets and water in their vehicles in case of emergencies.
As for the winter outlook, she says long‑range models are mixed — some pointing to a mild El Niño pattern, others suggesting more snow. Regardless, Borell says ODOT will be ready for whatever Mother Nature brings.
