Stark County Sheriff: Driver dies in crash after fleeing traffic stop

| October 30, 2026

TUSCARAWAS TOWNSHIP – A Strasburg man died in a car crash overnight after he allegedly fled from Massillon police during a traffic stop. The Stark County Sheriff’s Office says at approximately 12:30 a.m. Friday, Massillon Police attempted to stop a 2007 Cadillac DTS, but the driver fled the area at a high rate of speed. Officers later found the vehicle in the 4600 block of Carmont Avenue SW in Tuscarawas Township where it had crashed. The driver, 41-year-old Shawn Honaker of Strasburg, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a sheriff’s office press release. The Canton Metro Crash Team, Brewster Fire Department, and Stark County Coroner’s Office assisted at the scene. Sheriff’s officials said they could not provide more details because the investigation is ongoing.
