Scrap tire recycling event Saturday

| April 22, 2022

NEWCOMERSTOWN (WJER) (April 22, 2022) – The Tuscarawas County Health Department is promoting an opportunity for people to get rid of any scrap tires they’ve been holding onto.

Spokeswoman Jennifer Demuth says they will be collecting them Saturday from 9 until noon at the Newcomerstown Street Department Garage.

“Because when you can recycle those scrap tires, obviously that’s very good for the environment, but also a lot of folks if they have spare scrap tires they tend to keep them in the yard or outside and mosquitoes just love to hang out in scrap tires.”

The health department is using money from the Ohio EPA to fund the collection.

“And we’re able to do this event thanks to the folks at the Village of Newcomerstown as well as Gale’s Recycle It and the Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s Office, and we’re so thankful to them for partnering with us for that event.”

Demuth says there’s a 10-tire-per-person limit, though they can only take the tire itself and not the rim and won’t accept them from businesses. That’s for the scrap tire disposal event happening Saturday from 9 until noon at 2-10 South College Street Newcomerstown.
