Dover collecting donations for police dog memorial

| June 13, 2022

The proposed bronze statue is a likeness of a Belgian malinois. Dover's K-9 Rex, who died earlier this year, was a Belgian malinois.

DOVER (WJER) (June 13, 2022) – A city councilwoman is hoping to collect enough money to buy a bronze statue of a police dog to be placed near the police station in memory of the department’s K-9 partners.

Sandy Moss says a proclamation isn’t enough to honor K-9 Rex, who died in February, so she started looking at costs for a statue. The estimate is about $16,000.

Rex was Dover’s first police dog in decades. Officer Bill Nedrow revived the program about eight years ago. Red is Dover’s current police dog.

Moss says the city can add to the monument to honor future police dogs by adding paw prints with the name and badge number of each dog.

Donations can be made to the city of Dover, with K-9 memorial in the memo line.
