Grand jury to hear case against suspect in deadly hit-and-run crash

| June 23, 2022

NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (June 23, 2022) – The man accused of causing last week’s deadly hit-and-run crash at the Beaver Creek Apartment complex remains in jail as the case heads to a grand jury.

22-year-old Justin Brill appeared in municipal court this morning for a preliminary hearing on a complaint charging him with aggravated vehicular homicide, aggravated vehicular assault, and OVI. He waived his right to present evidence to the judge, who continued his $25,000 bond and bound the case over to Common Pleas Court for further proceedings.

55-year-old Ronald Rader died following the Tuesday evening crash that happened as he was sitting in front of an apartment with another man who was hospitalized for his injuries. Prosecutors say Brill’s blood alcohol content was almost twice the legal limit when police found him at his Front Avenue home nearly two hours later.
