Fundraising progresses to construct a local live-burn training facility

| July 30, 2022

NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (July 18, 2022) – A retired business owner is helping spearhead the effort to get area firefighters a live-burn training facility here in the county.

Brian Marsh says they’ve raised about $200,000 on the way to a goal of $450,000.

The plan is to build it behind the New Philadelphia fire station and hopefully have it ready by next summer.

He says they’re partnering with Buckeye Career Center since this type of structure can fulfill Class 1 and 2 certification requirements for participants in its firefighter training program.

Marsh says firefighters and students right now are having to go to Wayne County for this type of live-burn training experience, which has been costly for volunteers who pay to drive there.

Donations for the effort can be dropped off or mailed to the New Philadelphia Fire Department at 134 Front Street.
