Akron man indicted on 14 counts for July 7th crime spree in Dover and New Phila

| August 26, 2022

Ricky L. Moore, 36, of Canton has been indicted on 14 criminal counts for a July 7th vehicle theft spree in Dover and New Philadelphia.

NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (Aug. 26, 2022) – The man accused of stealing multiple vehicles in Dover and New Philadelphia within a couple of hours has been indicted by the grand jury.

36-year-old Ricky Moore of Akron is charged with counts four of grand theft of a motor vehicle and six counts of aggravated menacing in the indictment grand jurors handed down Thursday along with robbery felonious assault and attempted abduction.

Prosecutors say Moore robbed a woman of her Mitsubishi Eclipse during the July 7th crime spree, abandoning it and taking Chevy Colorado before attempting to abduct a man and child and ramming the stolen truck into their vehicle. They say Moore then stole another truck that he ditched at Rural King before stealing a box truck making a delivery at Walmart. He ended up turning himself in to Bolivar Police Chief Randy Haugh, who spotted the truck on I-77 and followed it to a gas station off the Faircrest Exit.

Moore remains in the Tuscarawas County Jail. Common Pleas Court officials say he’ll be arraigned on the charges sometime next week.
