Uhrichsville’s auditor stepping down Dec. 31st
UHRICHSVILLE (WJER) (Nov. 28, 2022) – The city is losing another auditor.
Becky Carpenter is stepping down on December 31st after almost a year of managing the city’s finances. She read a letter explaining her reasons during last week’s city council meeting.
“There hasn’t been an increase in eight years to this position. I can attest to you that I work 40 hours or more per week, which means at that rate of $22,401.16, I am making $10.77 per hour or less if I work over 40 hours a week.”
Carpenter also took issue with Councilman Matt Fox saying she could have made her job easier by hiring an assistant but chose not to so she could collect both salaries.
“I decided not to hire anybody immediately and tackle the position by myself. I felt that it would have been a waste of time to try and train somebody when I didn’t know the day-to-day operations.”
Carpenter is the second city auditor to resign in less than a year. Jessica Young stepped into the role after Democrat Julie Pearch retired in February of 2021 and quit this past January. Mayor Mark Haney will be responsible for appointing someone to complete the final year of Pearch’s term. City voters will then select that person’s successor next November if there are any candidates on the ballot.
