122nd Army Band free concert rewinds Dover back to the ’80s

DOVER (WJER) (June 26, 2024) – Members of the Army National Guard are coming to Dover High School Thursday night, and they’re bringing the ’80s with them.
The soldiers are members of the 122nd Army Band and they will perform a free concert at Dover High School June 27 at 7 p.m. The theme of the concert is “Rewind to the’80s.”
Dover High Band Director Chris Redd has been instrumental in bringing the band to Dover for the second straight summer.
He says the high-energy 122nd Army Band can go from a concert band playing the Olympic theme to a rock band playing the songs of Journey and Michael Jackson.
The program says, “Put down the Gameboy, put on your sweatbands, grab your Walkman, and let’s meet at the roller rink! You bring the big hair and a fanny pack full of quarters for the arcade, we’ll bring the mix tape of the music that defined the 80s. It’s gonna be tubular!”
The free concert will be inside the air-conditioned Dover High auditorium at 7 Thursday night.
Newcomerstown High and College of Wooster grad Dylan Garretson performs with the 122nd Army Band. He is a tuba player and music arranger who recently graduated from Wooster with a degree in music education. He was also a record-setting, All-American pole vaulter.
