2 injured in crash near Dover shortly after Christmas ends
NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (Dec. 26, 2024) – State troopers say two people were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries after being thrown from their minivan in a single-vehicle crash along Johnstown Rd. NE near Dover at about 12:45 this morning.
New Philadelphia Post Sgt. Brian Hawkins says the minivan went off the right side of the road, struck some mailboxes and a telephone pole, and overturned a few times.
Hawkins says the driver was a 35-year-old Dover man who walked home after the crash. He was contacted and taken to a Canton hospital for treatment. His juvenile passenger from Columbus remained at the crash site and was flown to a hospital in Akron. They were not wearing seatbelts.
Hawkins says speed appears to have been a factor in the crash. Alcohol use was also suspected. The road was closed for a couple of hours and the crash remains under investigation.
