NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (Oct. 4, 2024) – Events for the Tuscarawas County Literacy Coalition’s One Book One Community program are picking up through October.

The selection – “Things Seen from Above” by Shelley Pearsall – is about a couple of outsider school kids who view the world a little differently.

“I really wanted to do a middle grade book – like a middle school book – instead of a teen or adult book because we hadn’t done one in a while,” said Planning Committee Chair Courtney Wallace.

Programs include book discussions at area libraries, art and writing contests, and events for students.

Wallace says Pearsall, who is originally from Akron but now lives in Scotland, was thrilled when notified that her book could be the focus of the program this year.

“She was so honored and excited to be considered in the running,” said Wallace.

The culminating event will take place at Kent Tusc Founders Hall November 4th, featuring a live Zoom with Pearsall that night.
