NEW PHILADELPHIA – A 50-year-old woman was killed in a two-vehicle crash on US 250 in Tuscarawas County near the Harrison County border Monday afternoon.

The New Philadelphia Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol says the woman was traveling westbound in a 2003 Cadillac Deville around 3:18 p.m. when she went left of center and struck a 2024 Toyota Tacoma head-on. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 67-year-old man driving the Toyota was transported to Mercy Hospital due to his injuries.

Both drivers were wearing their seatbelts. Drugs are believed to be a factor in the crash, according to the State Highway Patrol.

U.S. 250 was closed in the afternoon because of the crash.

The State Highway Patrol did not immediately identify the crash victims.

Earlier in the afternoon, a single-vehicle crash on state Route 212 near Atwood Lake caused a natural gas fire.

The State Highway Patrol reports a 2007 Jeep Wrangler operated by a 44-year-old Scio woman was traveling east at about 1:40 p.m. and went of the right side of the road and struck a gas line pump house.

The vehicle struck gas lines inside the pump house and became engulfed in flames. The fire engulfed the building and several feet of last surrounding the building.

The driver exited the vehicle and got away safely. She suffered minor injuries and was transported to Union Hospital.

Enbridge Gas located a shutoff valve near the crash scene and stopped the gas supply to the fire. The Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s Office, and Fairfield Township and Sherrodsville Fire Departments also helped at the scene.
