TUSCARAWAS CO. (WJER) (Dec. 2, 2024) – The Monday after Thanksgiving traditionally represents the start of Ohio’s weeklong deer gun season.

Hunting hours are 30 minutes before sunrise to 30 minutes after sunset.

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources says hunters harvested more than 70,000 deer during the seven-day gun season in 2023.

Totals are typically highest in eastern Ohio.

Coshocton County led the state last year at 2,440 deer harvested during the week, followed by Tuscarawas County at 2,260.

Participants are reminded about the requirement to wear hunter orange, both on public and private land.
