A MAGICAL TRIP: Popular holiday train rides resuming in Dennison
DENNISON (WJER) (Dec. 4, 2024) – The Dennison Depot Railroad Museum is again offering trips to “The North Pole” and back this holiday season.
Beginning Thursday evening, you can hop aboard the Polar Express and experience the classic children’s novel by Chris Van Allsburg brought to life. Marketing Director Taylur Cunningham says it’s something they look forward to each year.
“It’s just a magical experience overall, and we love creating magic and having that signature Polar Express experience for everybody.”
Rides are on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, and Sundays through December 15th with tickets available online at dennisondepot.org and by calling the museum at 740-922-6776.
“We added Thursdays a couple of years ago just because there was such a high demand for tickets. That way we could offer some more opportunities. We are sticking to our signature event, and we always do add little new things that I don’t want to spoil for anyone that’s riding this year. We always try to increase their experience and make it bigger and better than the year before.”
The Polar Express is in its 24th year. Cunningham says it’s the museum’s biggest revenue source and wouldn’t be possible without an army of volunteers to fill the various roles.
“We have hundreds of elves alone not counting all of the storytellers and the assistants, and there’s a lot of work here at the depot in addition to the train. We have our office. We have two gift shops during this. We have a place where people go to pick up their books and catalogue orders.”
Passengers are encouraged to wear their pajamas for the journey where they’ll get to sing Christmas carols and play festive games while sipping on hot cocoa. Santa will also come on board to meet with kids and give them a special gift.
