Applicants sought for new county leadership position

| November 19, 2024

NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (Nov. 19, 2024) – The Tuscarawas County Commissioners have an opening to fill.

The three-member board is seeking applicants for county administrator after establishing the position last week. President Kristen Zemis says Tuscarawas is one of the few counties of its size in Ohio without one.

“We’ve got 40 buildings to manage. We have a fleet of vehicles that we own and insure. We run our own insurance consortium. We have 850 to 900 employees. It’s just a big job.”

The salary ranges from just under $85,000 annually to nearly $135,000 based on experience. Zemis says they’re hoping the position will pay for itself by lowering operating costs and bringing in additional grant money.

“This type of position is permissible under the Ohio Revised Code. It does not mean that the Board of Commissioners is any less accountable. We still have the ultimate accountability to the taxpayer and the constituent but this is a way for us we think to be more efficient.”

The job description and other details are posted on the county website. The deadline to apply is this Friday at 4:30 pm.
